"But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that."
-I Corinthians 7:7
God has called us to assist in the church-planting efforts of missionaries, both in the United States and abroad. This is accomplished through a ministry of helps. We are trained in the areas of carpentry and construction, teaching, music, and counseling. Our burden is to help missionary families in any way possible in order to make their ministries more effective and fruitful, and allowing them to do what God has called them to do.
Let us take a minute to introduce ourselves to you. We want you to know what God has put on our hearts and how you can best help.
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Mike grew up in a church-planting pastor's home and was saved at an early age. He was baptized shortly thereafter on Easter Sunday in the American River. Bob Jones University is where the Lord directed Mike for college. After majoring in Youth Ministries for one semester, the Lord changed his major to carpentry at the School of Applied Studies. Through contacts made there, Mike began to see how God could use his talents on the mission field. 1 Timothy 4:14 says, "Neglect not the gift that is in thee."
Upon graduation, Mike worked a secular job as a framer on a custom-home building crew. The Lord used this time to teach him many things about business, building, and life in general. In just two short years, Mike had been promoted to lead carpenter.
Realizing that God had blessed him with a talent, Mike began to offer his services to men's groups taking construction-oriented mission trips. He clearly saw the need for someone to fill this role full-time, and he felt that God was calling him to do it.
"I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee..."
Stephanie was saved at the age of nine during a children's church service. She was baptized a short time later. She attended Pensacola Christian College and majored in Early Childhood Education. Her minor was music, specifically piano.
Between her sophomore and junior years of college, Stephanie went to the Bill Rice Ranch West Branch as a counselor and piano player. The Lord did wonderful things in her heart that summer. Not only did she meet her future husband, she also felt God's call to the mission field.
Psalm 84:11 is a special verse to us. It says, "for the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly." On August 13,1994, Mike and Stephanie were married in Stephanie's home church in Muncie, Indiana.
"For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and lobor of love, which you have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints and do minister."
After much prayer, searching, and waiting, God directed Mike and Stephanie to Biblical Ministries Worldwide in 1999. This mission agency is located in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Their primary goal is to win souls to Christ and plant churches.
So what exactly is our ministry? God has allowed us to assist missionaries an many ways, from building churches to repairing appliances; building kitchen cabinets to moving boxes and families to new areas. God has also used us to preach, teach, lead Bible studies, work with children's ministries, counsel, pass out tracts, and witness. In addition, Mike has been used to lead construction teams and teach construction and maintenance of facilities to the missionaries and nationals (II Timothy 3:15).
Many people think of our ministry as just the construction of churches. Although this is included in our ministry, it is not our main goal. Our heartbeat is to see souls saved, people discipled, and churches planted. Anything our family can do to reach that goal is our ministry.
